I use Thunderbird as my email / calendar client, but I don't really like the appointment reminders that it shows. So I turned those off.

But my calendar is self-hosted, as an app within Nextcloud (running on my new FreedomBox from Libre Crafts). So I added my Nextcloud account in the Gnome settings, and it shows appointment reminders that are integrated into the desktop (appear under the clock).

    @james This is what I wanted to achieve with nextcloud.
    Are you telling me that you can also accept invites from the email client and see them propagated to the nextcloud calendar?

      I don't know if I have tried that yet with Nextcloud calendar (most of my calendar events are ones that I create, not received from email). But I did do this before with Thunderbird and a different calendar server (Radicale), so I think it should work with Nextcloud also.
